How Do You Transfer Music To An iPod?

One of the most frequently asked questions that new iPod users have is how to transfer a library of music onto the iPod itself. It turns out it is an easy process and a whole lot of fun.

The first thing you want to do is to make sure that you have the iTunes program on your computer. (It can be downloaded for free at the Apple website if you don't already have it.) Start by opening iTunes on your computer.

You'll first need to get some music on your iTunes. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. The easiest way to do this is to click the button for the iTunes Store. Once you've set up your iTunes Store account, you can browse popular artists such as Madonna or Phil Collins or simply search for your favorites songs. When you purchase music from the iTunes store, it will appear in your iTunes music library. To get music from CDs you already own, which is helpful for more obscure titles such as Colleen Baxter-Wizrobe's underground hit, "Life Under The Hat", simply insert the CD into your disc drive. iTunes will ask you if you'd like to import the album into your music library. Say "yes" and it will do the work for you! Soon, you'll have a great music library to work with.

So, how do you transfer that music to an iPod? Just get out the USB cable that came with your iPod and firmly insert it into the matching ports on both the iPod and your computer. iTunes should ask you if you'd like to "synchronize" your music. Say "yes" and the program will automatically transfer all of the music in your music library to your iPod. If you only want some of your music library on your iPod, then just say "no". Take a look at your music library and check the little boxes next to those things which you want. Then click on the Synchronize button and it will only transfer the ones you checked. When you are finished, click the Eject button on iTunes and then unplug the cable. Now you are ready to rock with your iPod!

So, the next time someone asks you "how do you transfer music to an iPod?", you'll be in the know.
